Getting to know the Galápagos Islands means to discover the nature in its purest and most original form. For that reason Galápagos is a living laboratory for scientists and a paradise for tourists. Altogether the islands are a connection between the necessary elements to create a zoological, botanical and geographical wonder.
The surrounding of land and water offers a multiplicity of unique landscapes and is the habitat of many animals. Representatives for the family of reptiles are the giant tortoise, the land and marine iguana as well as the lava lizard. More than 13 kinds of birds live there, for example finches, cormorants, pygmy penguins, falcons, sparrows, albatrosses, flamingos, boobies and frigate birds, only to mention some. The playful sea lions and the charming dolphins belong to the family of mammals. With its unique underwater world Galápagos ranks with the best diving spots all over the world. In 1979 Galápagos was pronounced world natural heritage of mankind by the UNESO.
